Leigh Network was proud to take part in World Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week between 18th-24th September 2023! Each year we join Mito organisations from across the globe in an amazing effort to raise awareness about Mitochondrial Diseases, the impact they have on patients and their families and the need for vital research to find treatments and one day a cure!
Social Media Platforms
Throughout the week we shared facts about Mitochondrial Disease across all of our social media platforms, asking those who saw the posts to share them across their own networks, we reached so many people during the week which was fantastic! We increased followers across Instagram, Facebook & Twitter – so now we are getting our message across to a bigger audience and we have also grown our closed Facebook group which is brilliant.
Twitter Takeover
We again were invited by the wonderful Mito Research team to take part in their Twitter Takeover, this was an opportunity to tell the world about what Leigh Network does and we were able to involve some of the families that we support who shared their stories and key messages about Mito. Thank you to Mito Research for involving us again! We really are Stronger Together.
Mito on the Mic
A huge part of of work during Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week was our fabulous Mito on the Mic event which we held on Friday 22nd September at the Inspire Cafe Wallasey on the Wirral! This was an evening of full of poetry, music, laughter, great food and good vibes! The evening gave us an opportunity to tell everyone more about mitochondrial disease and we also gave everyone a goodie bag which contained two of everything so that they could share the information with a friend, so that the awareness raising didn’t have to stop after the night.
We were so lucky to have wonderful performers who volunteered their time, a cosy venue provided by Inspire Cafe in Wallasey, raffle prizes donated by local businesses and an amazing audience who bought tickets and won fab raffle prizes!
We were able to raise a total of £708 – this will go towards our next Family Day and weekend residential next year 🙂
It really was an amazing week for the Mito community – also on the Saturday across the globe landmarks and public buildings were bathed in green light to raise awareness and remember those Mito warriors who have sadly lost their fight.
